Memorial Day Poster
Artist Statement
1. For this project, I mainly used the pen tool to cut out the figures raising the flag, and then painted it black in order to achieve a silhouetted look. Then, I added rocky shapes at the bottom, and used the circle tool to try and recreate the sun.
2. My poster was designed to represent Memorial Day, with the famous picture from the flag raising on Iwo Jima, and a phrase which reminds people to remember those who served in the past.
3. I chose this topic because Memorial Day had just passed, and I felt that I could make something that would remind people what Memorial Day signifies.
4. Some challenges I had was trying to find a picture at the correct angle, and I had to use the pen tool to outline the picture correctly. This way, it would be easy to recognize this famous picture.
5. My semester in Adobe Illustrator was really fun! I had a lot of fun making different projects, and coming up with ideas on how to make them. My most favorite project was the movie/game poster, where I really enjoyed creating a representation of two different games that I enjoy playing. I also enjoyed learning how to use the program, and I would definitely love taking this class again.
6. I probably would use Illustrator again, mainly due to how easy it is to learn, and how I can create many different projects with it. I also would probably use it to color in pictures that I hand-drew, as there are many different color effects to use that can make my drawings unique.
